Green BaYOU

Global Movements Start with Local Solutions

Home

Who are we?

Green BaYOU is a team of young, passionate, conservationists that work to empower the today’s youth to change their communities for the better. We work with school groups and community volunteers to develop outdoor education spaces, visualized by the young leaders of tomorrow. By giving our youth the skills, resources, and support they need to create their own vision for the future, they are then able to create a sense of community that is intertwined with nature and each other. As a team we bring the resources and skills needed to help support the efforts of the youth and their communities in rebuilding their natural environments, all we need is an area in which to work and volunteers who are ready to change the world, one place at a time.

Ultimate Goal:

The overall goal of Green BaYOU is to enable and invest in our Houston communities and to encourage them to get involved in creating localized solutions by developing outdoor spaces that can be used for both educational and recreational opportunities. By educating our community and education leaders, we will create a multiplier effect that has the potential to continue to expand across the community lines.

To accomplish this, Green BaYOU will bring together our community leaders and educators (both formal and informal) for an educational kickoff event where they will learn through a hands-on project how to create a habitat and outdoor education center (such as a pocket prairie garden). Green BaYOU will target the outdoor youth enthusiasts, ages 16 through 30, in the Houston region that are passionate about sharing their interest in creating an impact in their community. Even with a youth target, all ages are welcome to participate and gain more knowledge through the Green BaYOU events. These youth leaders will then be empowered to take back what they have learned, with the support of the Green BaYOU team and their partners, and create a follow up event in their local community or school grounds where they will create their own outdoor habitat space.
